#3 Sunrise

As it breaches the horizon, the sun spreads a palette of soft pinks and violets across the scudding clouds. The silhouette of a sturdy fir tree pierces the sky. The snow is flushed with a sheen of pink. Its mantle is broken only by the trudging of boots. Hills frosted with snow recede into the distance, toward the sun. Rolling mountains to the south stretch their snowy arms upward. All is quiet. The songbirds do not sing this early in the cold. They snuggle in the warmth and coziness of nests. The crispness of winter is manifest. Its icy scent permeates the air. Frost encrusts the fence that cuts through the field and the bare branches of the trees. Stray snowflakes meander along with the faintness of a breeze, which sways like a boat at harbor. Spindly icicles adorn the trees and have not yet had a chance to melt. This is idyll. The silence, stillness, and colors of a wintry dawn are as welcome now as the sprouts of grass are in spring.

#2 No, I'm not an Elmo Super-fan

Awwww! Thanks guys! Elmo loves you!
Elmo is so happy to know he's touched so many lives!
Elmo is happy he can see many of his fans and friends
at Sesame Street Live.

There is so much Elmo information here at Elmo's Playground; some that Elmo didn't even know himself. Elmo didn't know his Scientific name is Furrius childus. But then again, Elmo is only 3 1/2, and has been 3 1/2 since 1984. Elmo is glad he is red because Elmo would blush at all the Elmo compliments. Elmo is "enthusiastic, friendly, and cheerful," yes, but Elmo is also modest. Elmo is so happy that you appreciate "Elmo's World." Elmo is glad he inspires you to write poems.

Elmo is so happy that 4067 people "have sent a message to Elmo" on "Elmo's Chalkboard" since June 1997. But sorry Amy Smith, Elmo is only 3 1/2 and can't marry you. Elmo loves you all, but Elmo hopes you will work on your spelling. Kristen from Ontario, Elmo says "thank you" for wanting to throw him a birthday party. Mrs. Robinson, Elmo is so happy you want to give your baby all Elmo related products. Amanda Panda, Elmo is so happy he could help you find your mommy when you were lost in Wal-Mart. Alissa, age 13, Elmo is sorry that you love Elmo so much that it hurts.
Don't ever forget that Elmo loves you!

#1 This is a...

To kindergartners:

Do you see the little person in the middle? He is standing on a big piece of ice. The ice doesn't look very white because there are little black rocks on it. The big piece of ice is called a glacier. Do you see the blue water at the bottom of the picture? That is a river. It is very cold because it is a river flowing on the big piece of ice. The water is melted ice. The water is flowing down into a dark hole in the ice. It is a big hole and goes down a long, long way. The hole is called a moulin (moo-LAHN). That person should not be standing so close to the hole because
HE COULD FALL IN!
He doesn't want to fall in because it is a very big hole and the water is very cold.

To Harry Potter fanatics:

This is a picture of a moulin (moo-LAHN). If it were one of your precious moving pictures, you'd be able to see the water flowing. Anyway, a moulin is a place on a glacier where a river of glacial melt goes down into the glacier. It flows down through a tunnel it has enlarged over time. You may think all tunnels lead somewhere special like a "Chamber of Secrets" or a "Shrieking Shack." Well, this one doesn't. Because it's just like the door Sirius Black goes through. If that guy falls in, he's dead and gone forever. If you want to learn more about glaciers and moulins, which you probably don't, you ain't gonna find them in no "History of Magic," because that doesn't talk about anything practical. Go to this website, or to the website All About Glaciers.
